With my head full of Peter's and Anna's new opus I decided to have another go at getting my hands on Peter's solo work. With great difficulty I managed to get a hold of "A different man" and "Mon Inconue" several years ago but "Once in a million" and "Pretty Ballerina" eluded me.I decided that the best place to look was www.amazon.fr.I was right......all Peter's solo work is there but the site is,understandably, all in french.Mindful of the risk of ordering 100 copies of Pretty Ballerina and getting them sent inadvertatly to Siberia,I spent one careful hour placing my order. After a dozen or so failed attempts I finally got it right.....and that familiar final page with all your details popped up.BUY!
So far I have listened to the "Once in a million".I'm mindful that some of the critique for this was less than possitive but I have to say I love it.
The mood is dark and at times bleak.reminicent of Peter Gabriel's forth album. The arrangements are simple and sparse. The music takes on a rhythmic groove which is totally compelling, interlaced with some really great guitar/sax instrumentation.Peter's pitch-perfect vocals are rought with emotion. While you could argue that IDWTSTW sounds like the natural successor to "After here through Midland",Once in a million is very much in the present tense.
Dark....Emotional......Compelling......Recommended!
Looking forward to "PB"
